Relay for Life Poem

A walk for life, a walk for hope
I'm walking for a reason to cope
To cope with an illness we now fear
Coping with the loss of someone so dear
Battles lost and battles won
I walked for a battle that has just begun
Millions have fought this battle in the past
Win or loose you wont be the last
So I walk today, but not for my own
I walked today, you know you're not alone

If you read this poem and wonder who
Just think for a moment it might be you
Healthy or not, it might hit like a flash
Your heart will drop, an overwhelming crash
For some it's a thought that will never come
For others it's reality, a constant sounding drum
Or maybe it's a friend or loved one, so close
Sometimes it's the scare of being misdiagnosed
Where ever you fall in these categories of strife
I ask you to care enough to walk the Relay for Life

Slow Dance Poem

Have you ever watched kids
on a merry-go-round?

Or listened to the rain
slapping on the ground?

Ever followed a butterfly’s erratic flight?
Or gazed at the sun into the fading night?

You better slow down
Don’t dance so fast

Time is short
The music won’t last

Do you run through each day
On the fly

When you ask “How are you?”
Do you hear the reply?

When the day is done,
do you lie in your bed

With the next hundred chores
running through your head?

You’d better slow down
Don’t dance so fast

Time is short
The music won’t last

Ever told your child,
We’ll do it tomorrow?

And in your haste,
not see his sorrow?

Ever lost touch,
Let a good friendship die

‘Cause you never had time
To call and say “Hi”?

You’d better slow down

Time is short
The music won’t last

When you run so fast to get somewhere
You miss half the fun of getting there.

When you worry and hurry through your day,
It is like an unopened gift….Thrown away…

Life is not a race.
Do take it slower

As though no one is watching you.

A Creed to Live By

Don't undermine your worth by comparing
yourself with others.
It is because we are different that each of us is special.
Don't set your goals by what other people
deem important.

Only you know what is best for you.
Don't take for granted the things closest to your heart.
Cling to them as you would your life, for without them
life is meaningless.

Don't let your life slip through your fingers
by living in the past or for the future.
By living your life one day at a time,

Don't dismiss your dreams.

To be without dreams is to be without hope;
to be without hope is to be without purpose.
Don't run through life so fast that you forget
not only where you've been, but also where you're going.
Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored
each step of the way.

Healing Ourselves–By Gary Kobat

If we are here to truly heal ourselves,
we must respect the inner healing abilities we all have.
We must be open to make and allow the connections we are ready to make -
advocating integration, gentleness, and patience.

We must stay encouraged to avoid the extremes
of denying our pain or embellishing it.

Our pain must be faced, not imagined.
When there, pain will express itself authentically.
It will speak with its own voice in its own time.

We must be careful not to put pressure on ourselves
to speak about it before we are ready.
We provide space for feeling our pain, breathing through our pain,
and being the bringer of love to our pain.

As a result: we begin the process of healing - we get stronger,
we heal, and we move on.
When we take responsibility for being a true healer,
the possibilities are infinite.

See It Through

When you're up against a trouble,
     Meet it squarely, face to face;
Lift your chin and set your shoulders,
      Plant your feet and take a brace.
When it's vain to try to dodge it,
      Do the best that you can do;
You may fail, but you may conquer,
      See it through!
Black may be the clouds about you
     And your future may seem grim,
But don't let your nerve desert you;
     Keep yourself in fighting trim.
If the worst is bound to happen,
     Spite of all that you can do,
Running from it will not save you,
     See it through!
Even hope may seem but futile,
   When with troubles you're beset,
But remember you are facing
    Just what other men have met.
You may fail, but fall still fighting;
    Don't give up, whate'er you do;
Eyes front, head high to the finish.

Get Off the Scale

Special thank you to Hailey for taking the time to contact me and share this new piece from “Life the Truth and Being Free” by Steve Maraboli. I enjoyed this so much that I wanted to share it with everyone.  The message is true.  Read it and you will know why. Get Off the Scale

You are beautiful. Your beauty, just like your capacity for life, happiness, and success, is immeasurable. Day after day, countless people across the globe get on a scale in search of validation of beauty and social acceptance.

Get off the scale! I have yet to see a scale that can tell you how enchanting your eyes are. I have yet to see a scale that can show you how wonderful your hair looks when the sun shines its glorious rays on it. I have yet to see a scale that can thank you for your compassion, sense of humor, and contagious smile. Get off the scale because I have yet to see one that can admire you for your perseverance when challenged in life.

It’s true, the scale can only give you a numerical reflection of your relationship with gravity. That’s it. It cannot measure beauty, talent, purpose, life force, possibility, strength, or love. Don’t give the scale more power than it has earned. Take note of the number, then get off the scale and live your life. You are beautiful!

A Baby Asked God–Mother’s Day Story

This poem was shared with me years ago and I have never forgotten it.  I have been blessed with two beautiful children and this story always brings tears to my eyes believing that I was “chosen” to be their mom.  I love you Allison and Alex!  xoxoxo

 

 

A Baby Asked God – Mother’s Day Story

A baby asked God, “They tell me you are sending me to earth tomorrow, but how am I going to live there being so small and helpless?”

“Your angel will be waiting for you and will take care of you.”

The child further inquired, “But tell me, here in heaven I don’t have to do anything but sing and smile to be happy.”

God said, “Your angel will sing for you and will also smile for you. And you will feel your angel’s love and be very happy.”

Again the child asked, “And how am I going to be able to understand when people talk to me if I don’t know the language?”

God said, “Your angel will tell you the most beautiful and sweet words you will ever hear, and with much patience and care, your angel will teach you how to speak.”

“And what am I going to do when I want to talk to you?”

God said, “Your angel will place your hands together and will teach you how to pray.”

“Who will protect me?”

God said, “Your angel will defend you even if it means risking it’s life.”

“But I will always be sad because I will not see you anymore.”

God said, “Your angel will always talk to you about Me and will teach you the way to come back to Me, even though I will always be next to you.”

At that moment there was much peace in Heaven, but voices from Earth could be heard and the child hurriedly asked, “God, if I am to leave now, please tell me my angel’s name.”

“You will simply call her, ‘Mother.’”

Why Not You?

Today, many will awaken with a fresh sense of inspiration. Why not you?

Today, many will open their eyes to the beauty that surrounds them. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to leave the ghost of yesterday behind and seize the immeasurable power of today. Why not you?

Today, many will break through the barriers of the past by looking at the blessings of the present. Why not you?

Today, for many the burden of self doubt and insecurity will be lifted by the security and confidence of empowerment. Why not you?

Today, many will rise above their believed limitations and make contact with their powerful innate strength. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to live in such a manner that they will be a positive role model for their children. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to free themselves from the personal imprisonment of their bad habits. Why not you?

Today, many will choose to live free of conditions and rules governing their own happiness. Why not you?

Today, many will find abundance in simplicity. Why not you?

Today, many will be confronted by difficult moral choices and they will choose to do what is right instead of what is beneficial. Why not you?

Today, many will decide to no longer sit back with a victim mentality, but to take charge of their lives and make positive changes. Why not you?

Today, many will take the action necessary to make a difference. Why not you?

Today, many will make the commitment to be a better mother, father, son, daughter, student, teacher, worker, boss, brother, sister, & so much more. Why not you?

Today is a new day!

Many will seize this day.

Many will live it to the fullest.

My Comfort Zone–A Poem

I used to have a comfort zone
where I knew I wouldn't fail.
The same four walls and busywork
were really more like jail.

I longed so much to do the things I'd never done before,
But stayed inside my comfort zone and paced the same old floor.

I said it didn't matter that I wasn't doing much.
I said I didn't care for things like commission checks and such.
I claimed to be so busy with the things inside the zone,
But deep inside I longed for something special of my own.

I couldn't let my life go by just watching others win.
I held my breath; I stepped outside and let the change begin.
I took a step and with new strength I'd never felt before,
I kissed my comfort zone goodbye and closed and locked the door.

If you're in a comfort zone,
afraid to venture out,
Remember that all winners were at one time filled with doubt.
A step or two and words of praise can make your dreams come true.

Reach for your future with a smile; success is there for you!
