I'm studying more about naturopathic remedies and came across this tidbit in the "Staying Healthy With Nutrition" book.
Garlic. Researchers are seeing some new uses for garlic regarding energy balance, primarily because of its impact on blood sugar. Some of the substances that can hook up with insulin and deactivate it end up hooking up with compounds in garlic instead, and the result is increasing availability of insulin and better control of blood sugar. some of garlic's components can also stimulate the pancreas to produce more insulin. For these reasons, garlic is starting to be used in relationship to diabetes, where it seems able to improve blood sugar regulation and energy balance.
