I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas. I certainly enjoyed mine. Santa and family were very good to the kids this year. I was happy to be home and spending the holidays with my family. That meant more to me than presents under the tree although I did get some very lovely gifts. My mother bought me a beautiful bracelet from Charm Diamond Centre, clothing, a new purse and comfy pjs. My brother gave me a gift card to Future Shop. I also got gift cards for Boston Pizza, Aveda Senses and Walmart. You can never go wrong with gift cards at Christmas!
I want to talk about my surprise present from Roy and the kids. They decided to surprise me this year by buying a BodyBugg! I never mentioned wanting one or having any interest in owning one so I was really surprised to unwrap the gift on Christmas Day. Roy and the kids love watching the Biggest Loser so I was familiar with what it was. I just never took an interest in wanting to own one since I already have my Polar Heart Rate Monitor. Anyhow, now that I own one I think I’m quickly falling in love with the little thing! Here’s why!
You wear the strap on your upper left hand arm ALL day long (even when you sleep) and it will track how many calories your body is burning, every minute of every hour. I always had suspicions that my body would burn more than 1200 calories in the run of a day or closer to 2000 but with this little gadget I now know how much and when. I can log into the application and it will show me a graph per hour of what my body is burning. It’s so amazing. For example, during sleep my body averages about 1.5 calories per minute. Once I hit REM sleep I go down to 1-1.2 calories per minute. In comparison, during an intense workout my calorie average has been 10.5 calories per minute. How cool is that? I’m sure it’s going to make me neurotic about tracking my numbers but this is truly attractive to my nerdy side. I love it! Here’s a picture of the graph:
The newer BodyBugg SP will interfact with your iPhone or Android. Mine is version 3 so it won’t do that but reviews are showing that the SP is still buggy and most users prefer version 3.
To view your calorie burn you log into the Apexonline website and you can upload your activity from the BodyBugg and keep a food journal of what you ate for the day. It’s really quite simple. You can buy a watch that will allow you to view your calorie burn without having to upload the data. Right now I have to unhook the device, plug it into a USB port, log into the web interface to upload my data, then view. It’s kind of a PITA but doable. I think having the watch and getting the real time view would be nice. It’s on my wishlist for my birthday next month.
I went to the gym yesterday afternoon and did a tough leg, back and bicep workout. I also played a ton of Dance Central using the Kinect. Imagine my surprise when the BodyBugg told me I still had work to do at the end of the day. LOL. Evil little thing. I love it!
My fitness goal for 2011 is to drop the weight I’ve gained in 2010. 2010 was a lot of stress and change. I know 2011 is going to be better for me. I’m already well on my way with my first 2 goals:
- Give up diet pop
- Lose 25 lbs
In terms of goal #1 I’m on day 2 without any diet pop. My head is killing me. I feel like I’m going to puke but I know this is the price you pay for giving up this crap. Tough lesson learned.
Goal #2 is already well in progress thanks to my new BodyBugg. I have been working out consistently and tracking my nutrition and exercises using the BodyBugg website. At this rate I should be at my goal weight by March!
I’m going to end this blog post with a quote that is so true “If it is to be then it is up to me”. I want to make 2011 a better year. In order for that to happen I have to do it ALL BY MYSELF and I know I will!
